Overview
The "News" webparts is a summary view of the latest news articles (pages) from /pubnews section of the site. It takes the Title, Summary, Published Date and Image, from the Sproket News page layout and displays it nicely in the wepart. It can be added to pages around your site and filtered on different categories for each feed to show what's relevant for that section of the site.

Image Dimension
The standard image dimentions are 150 x 150 pixels (Rolled Up Image)
Difference Between News Feed & News Landing Feed
The difference between "News Feed" and "News Landing Feed", is that the "News Feed" web part has the "Red More >" Link against all the articles, the "More News" and "Add Article" at the footer of the web part, the "News Landing Feed" does not, it is simpler.
Capabilities
News webpart can:
- Filter by X number of articles
- Filter on Publish Date
- Filter on Category (Linked to Meta tags that can be defined and managed by each organisation) (E.G. Project News, Home Page News, Policy News etc.)
- Link to full article details, through "Read More >" link against each article. (News Feed Only)
- Users can "Add Article" from this webpart, with the right access level. (News Feed Only)
- Link to News Page from this web part from "More News" (News Feed Only)
- Add "Web Part" to a News Article. Unlike Blog posts, you can add Web Parts to a News article.
Work Instructions (Add News Article)
Set up News
If you are not already using the Sproket News, you should be able to add the News Web App to your Page and add start posting News Articles.
If you have any issues, please raise a support ticket with Sope.
Posting a News Article
A news article can be added by clicking "Add Article" from the end of the news feed web part (e.g. on the Home Page)
Fill Out Summary Page
Fill out the Name of your news article (this will generate the URL Name for you, it will take the name and add "-" by default) and always choose "(News Page) sproket/News Article", then click "Create".
Complete the News Article It will then take you to the article page to fill out.
- Title - This is taken from the prior page.
- Article Date - You can add a future date for the article to be visible in the news feed once approved. (if you want it published straight away, put today's date)
- Summary - This is the summary on the news feed (visible on the home page)
- Category - This is used to filter / display articles for different parts of the site (Click on the tabs to see the options within your organisation)
- Page Content - This is the body of the article that is only visible when the user clicks "read more >" from the news feed to see the full article.
- Rollup Image - This is the image is also used in the news feed on the home page.
- Web Parts - You can choose to add web parts if you'd like (e.g. document libraries, other web parts etc.) it isn't required, but it is an available feature.
The following sections are what is visible in the news feed on the home page (Title, Article Date, Summary, Rollup Image)
Once you have finished filling out your article, you can navigate to the publish tab in the ribbon and click Publish. (Your organisation may have approval workflows set up as part of this process)
How to Filter Articles in the News Web Part
If you go into "Edit Web Part", under "Query" there are additional filters. By default "Article Date" will be Equal to or less that Today. You can add "Item Category", this is where you can filter on the Category Meta Tags for the feed on this page.
